Infolytica Corporation (www.infolytica.com), world’s first software firm that simulated electromagnetic fields using the finite element method (FEA), has unveiled two new finite element analysis software packages — the ElecNet and ThermNet.
Integrated with a new adiabatic feature, ThermNet can be linked together with ElecNet for coupled simulations, which effectively expands the capabilities of a design solution.
The new finite element analysis software packages also features similar easy and seamless coupling offered in the Magnet and ThermNet. Making a coupled analysis establishes the non-linear steady state temperature distribution attributed to electric heat sources for both time-varying and static thermal simulations. The coupling seamlessly works with ElecNet’s current flow, transient and time-harmonic electric filed solvers.
Meanwhile, ThermNet’s new adiabatic feature can be utilized for both coupled simulations of MagNet and ElecNet. ThermNet’s adiabatic feature also offers rapid and sudden heating similar to the process occurring when lightning strikes.
“We’ve added important coupling options for both existing ElecNet users and future ones who require thermal aspects to get a complete picture,” said Chad Ghalamzan, Marketing Manager at Infolytica.
The harmonious blend of the new features enable devices such as cables, surge arrestors, transmission lines or other phenomena, which include dielectric heating, to be simulated accurately. To show the accuracy and kinds of results that can be achieved from the new additions, the company has also released a detailed example simulating a surge arrestor that is struck by lightning.
